The Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at the Melbourne Museum opened its First Peoples exhibition in September this year. The exhibition makes use of still images, video, sound, cultural items and interactive multimedia displays to focus on Victorian Aboriginal culture from pre-contact to present day.
I am honoured that material from my 2010 body of work, 'Aboriginalities' was selected by the curators to be included in this exhibition. The portraits and words of four of the participants feature in the 'Generations' section of the exhibition.
If you live in or are visiting Melbourne, I highly recommend taking the time to visit the museum and learning more about our first people. For more information on visiting the First Peoples exhibition click here.
ABC Arts visited the museum to speak to lead curator, Genevieve Grieves and Boonwurrung elder, Carolyn Briggs about the exhibition. To watch the 3 minute and 34 second video click here to be redirected to the ABC Arts website.
